A Flag for Wallace
Centuries pass. Empires rise and fall. Yet someone still returns to leave a flag beneath the name.
Walking through London, I wasn’t expecting to find a reminder of Scotland.
Tucked into a stone archway was a memorial to Sir William Wallace, the Scottish knight remembered for resisting English rule in the late thirteenth century. Beneath the plaque, someone had carefully draped a Saltire.
That small gesture changed the photograph.
The memorial records a life that ended more than seven hundred years ago. The flag records something else entirely: that memory isn’t confined to history books. It continues through people who choose to remember.
Photography often captures moments.
Sometimes it captures the quiet ways that the past remains present.
