Why CSE Photos Exists

I have never believed photography is about preserving places.

Places change.

Buildings disappear.

Cities evolve.

Even memories slowly lose their edges.

What I have always wanted to preserve is something much smaller.

A feeling.

A photograph has never been proof that I was somewhere.

It has always been proof that, for a brief moment, I was paying attention.

The way morning light entered a café.

A stranger waiting for someone.

A museum visitor standing silently before a painting.

A reflection that lasted only a second.

The quiet beauty everyone else hurried past.

People often ask why I rarely photograph famous landmarks.

The answer is simple.

Millions of people already have.

I’m more interested in what happens just outside the frame everyone else is chasing.

Because that’s usually where life is.

Travel has taught me that cities reveal themselves slowly.

Not through monuments.

Through conversations.

Architecture.

Coffee.

Rain.

Music drifting through an open window.

A beer shared after walking all day.

Museums.

Not because they make me feel intellectual.

Because they remind me that humans have always searched for meaning.

I suppose I am doing exactly the same thing.

Many of my photographs contain people looking away.

I used to think that was coincidence.

Now I think I understand why.

When someone isn’t looking at the camera...

their story remains unfinished.

The viewer has to complete it.

Photography becomes collaboration.

Music has always been part of this journey.

Some places are impossible for me to remember without hearing the song that belonged to them.

Some songs are impossible to hear without remembering where I first listened to them.

Music doesn’t accompany life.

It becomes part of its memory.

Photography.

Travel.

Museums.

Music.

Running.

Beer shared with friends after finishing a long run.

These have never been separate passions.

Together, they describe the life I wanted to live.

Photography simply became the thread connecting them.

This website isn’t a portfolio.

It’s a record of paying attention.

A collection of moments that almost disappeared.

Proof that I was here.

Proof that I noticed.

Proof that this life was worth living.

If these photographs accomplish anything...

I hope they remind someone to slow down.

To notice the extraordinary hidden inside ordinary days.

To see beauty where everyone else kept walking.

Because I believe that’s where life quietly waits for us.

Five minutes after leaving this website...

I don’t hope you remember my photographs.

I hope you look differently at your own life.

Maybe you’ll stop.

Maybe you’ll notice the light.

Maybe you’ll begin seeing the things you’ve been walking past for years.

Because they were always there.

Waiting.
