Beyond the Focus
The subject doesn’t always have to be the thing in focus.
Photography teaches us to decide what matters.
Point here. Focus there. Everything else can disappear.
But sometimes the thing we cannot quite see becomes the reason we keep looking.
A figure in red walks somewhere beyond a small landscape of sand and stone. I don’t remember where they were going. I don’t need to.
The distance is part of the photograph.
Some stories become more interesting when we aren’t given every detail.
