A bicycle wheel partially visible through a doorway, leaning into a quiet courtyard lined with potted plants.

Moment

Outside the Frame

Sometimes seeing less gives us more to imagine.

I don’t know where the bicycle was going. That’s probably why I still like the photograph.

There is a wheel, a doorway, a quiet courtyard, and just enough information to suggest everything that exists beyond the frame.

Photography often makes us want to include more.

The whole bicycle.
The whole courtyard.
The whole story.

But sometimes the photograph becomes more interesting when something is missing. The rest belongs to whoever is looking.
