A person walks along a sunlit sidewalk while their long shadow stretches toward the foreground beside the shadow of a street post.

Moment

The Shadow Comes Along

Wherever the light sends us, the shadow comes along.

I noticed the shadow before I noticed the person.

Long afternoon light had turned an ordinary sidewalk into something else. Legs became lines. A street post doubled itself across the pavement. Even someone passing through became part of the geometry.

A few seconds later, everything would move.

The person.

The bicycle.

The sun.

The photograph is what remained.

Sometimes that’s all street photography needs: light, timing, and someone walking through at exactly the right moment.
