What’s Left
Time rarely erases everything at once. It leaves enough behind for us to imagine the rest.
The sea has no interest in preserving our work.
It takes a board this year, another the next, until one day only the outline remains.
Yet somehow, the absence tells the story just as well as the structure once did.
Looking at these weathered posts, it’s easy to picture the pier that used to stand here.
Perhaps that’s what memory does.
It doesn’t keep everything.
It keeps enough.
