Black-and-white photograph of a person descending an escalator at Helsinki Station, surrounded by deep shadows and reflections as a narrow beam of light catches the head and shoulder.

Observation

Passing Through

Three people. One escalator. A narrow opening of light.

In Helsinki Station, light crossed the escalator for only a small part of its descent.

People moved through it one after another — emerging briefly from the darkness before disappearing again.

The place stayed the same.
The light stayed the same.
The people changed.

And each time, for a fraction of a second, so did the photograph.

The Light Between

Not enough light to reveal everything. Just enough to make you look.
